This weekend saw two games in BCEW and the BBS Cup first round.

BCEW League

On Saturday Justin Hollingsworth starred in an 8 wicket win for Warwickshire over Northants. The youngster took 3 early wickets as Northants limped to 90/7 despite a patient 21 from Dave Keeling. A club record 8th wicket stand of 81 from Charles Ronayne and Eddy Claridge helped the Steelbacks to post a respectable score of 171 before the innings was ended by a direct hit run out.

In response Northants struggled to cope in windy conditions allowing Hollingsworth and Aiden Reilly to get the Bears off to a solid start. Reilly was dismissed by Eddy Claridge thanks to a good catch from Matt Ringland and Alastair Provan removed Roy Turnham for around 20, but by this time the result was only going one way. Northants missed a couple of opportunities to get a bowling point and man of the match Justin Hollingsworth ended up about 79 not out.

In the other BCEW league match Hampshire were too strong for the inexperienced Metro Devils. The Devils batted for 26 overs despite Andy Powers’s brilliant bowling figures of 6-4-3-3 and Ian Morris claiming an impressive 5-0-17-3. Set a victory target of just 72 Hampshire’s openers Ryan West (43 not out) and Matt Page (18 not out) knocked off the runs in 9 overs for a 10 wicket victory.

BBS Cup Due to a lack of any b1 players Somerset had to concede the cup match. However Durham and Somerset did play a friendly which Somerset won. In the quarter finals Hampshire will host Durham.

All eight BCEW league sides are in action next weekend, so check the fixtures section for details.
