Stage Set for T-20 World Cup for the Blind, Inauguration Ceremony

December 1st, Bangalore: After months of hype and anticipation the T-20 World Cup for the Blind is poised to emerge from the chrysalis.

The tournament, modeled on the regular T-20 format, is sponsored by the State Bank of India, (our title-principal sponsor) and will have 39 matches starting from December 2nd with the final on Dec 13th. Nine teams from across the world will play against each other and fight for a berth in the two semi-finals (Dec 12) and final (Dec 13).

The nine teams are: India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

The Tournament’s inaugural on December 1 was flagged off with a formal flag hoisting ceremony followed by a march past which saw participation from the Navy & Army forces. Vibrant cultural performances by the Sunadha group enthralled the audiences’with their spectacular performance. Chief Guests presiding included the Mayor of Bangalore Sri Venkatesh Murthy, Sri R. Ashoka, Deputy Chief Minister, PC Mohan, MP, Bangalore Central, Shri Krishna Mohan Trivedi, the GM, Bangalore Circle, State Bank of India, cricket legends BS Chandrasekhar, and Syed Kirmani, who due to health reasons could not make it, sends his best wishes to all the participating nations.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mahantesh, Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam and the General Secretary of Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) said, “After months of speculation, the final day is finally here. All the teams have practiced with all their heart and soul. I am glad that we have the support of such eminent members from our country to support the T20 Cricket World Cup for the Blind. Also, the tournament involves no tickets; it’s an open show for one and all. We want everyone to rejoice and boost up the morale of all the cricketers participating from the nine different teams across the world. My good wishes to all of them.”
