Hossell, Aughton and Duncan earn call-ups to the England Visually Impaired World Cup squad

2nd September 2014

Ed Hossell

Ed Hossell, Jason Aughton and Kelvin Duncan are the only new faces in England’s squad for the 2014 Blind Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

Ross Hunter has named the trio in his first competitive squad since becoming head coach, and there are also places for Mark Bond, Ryan Jones and Jimmy Millard who have all been in previous squads but are still waiting to earn their first England caps.

Hossell and Aughton are the first Somerset players to be selected for the national squad, but it’s the traditional clubs who dominate the party with seven Metro players, four from Sussex and three from Warwickshire.

So far, 56 players have been capped by England, with Dave Gavrilovic the last to join this list during the 2012 Twenty20 World Cup. Gavrilovic, Rob Comber, Andy Powers and Dave Powers are the only players from that tournament to not feature in the squad this time.

The World Cup will take place in Cape Town during late November and early December and will feature Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

This tournament will feature matches of 40 overs per side as was the case in the 1998, 2002 & 2006 World Cups, in which England finished third each time.

After naming the squad, Hunter told the ECB: “This is a strong squad with a nucleus of senior players and some exciting new players as well who will be keen to make an impression in South Africa.”
