The weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September will see the fifth staging of the BCEW Brian Johnston Memorial Trust Development Festival.

For the fourth year in a row the event will take place at Leicester University and will play host to young, inexperienced or developing blind cricketers from all over the country.

This season, seven teams are taking part; Berkshire Stags, Derbyshire Owls, Dorset Dolphins, Durham VICC, Gloucestershire Growlers, London Metro and Nottingham Knights.

With all teams due to face each other in a round robin format, this means there will always be three matches on the go at any one time. The side not in action will receive coaching with either the domestic or international ball, depending on their preference.

The event has been organised by BCEW Development Director John Garbett with assistance from BCEW Technical Director Geoff Smith. This year’s tournament is expected to feature around 25% of players who are playing blind cricket for the first time and there will also be a healthy number of female players involved.

BCEW General Secretary Dave Gavrilovic said: “The BCEW BJMT Development Festival is a key part of our annual calendar. Our game can only grow by involving new players and new clubs and no event on our calendar does more to help with that objective.

“We are of course extremely grateful to the Brian Johnston Memorial Trust as without their funding this event could not take place. I also want to thank John and Geoff for their hard work making the weekend happen and I’m sure as in the previous four years it will be a huge success.”
