Ditchburn, Lewis and Afshari pick up Development League Awards

Following the busiest ever BCEW Development League season, Amin Afshari, Jonathan Lewis and Alex Ditchburn have won the inaugural Development League Player of the Year Awards.

Afshari, a Kent Spitfires VICC all rounder, playing in his first ever season of blind cricket, scored 113 runs at an average of 28.25 including a half century against Metro Devils. He also took five wickets conceding an average of 6.45 runs per over to be named BCEW Development League Total Player of the Year.

Amin’s performances also earned him nominations for two national level awards, details of which will be published here shortly.

Lewis batted superbly to reach fifty every time he came to the crease and his 203 runs came with a fantastic strike rate of 137.27 as he went the whole season without getting out. Jonathan also took seven wickets from his 16 overs at an astonishing average of just 12.14 runs per wicket, and even added a catch to his sensational season that led to him being named BCEW Development League Low Partial Player of the Year.

Jonathan’s victory came in a vastly improved season for low partial players with Chris Lewis having a great all round season and the trio of Paul Fisher, Nadeem Khan & Terry Richards contributing more than 150 runs each.

There was a massive field of strong candidates for BCEW Development League Partially Sighted Player of the Year and it took five catches, 11 wickets at an average of 10.73 runs per wicket, and 216 runs with an average of 108 to secure the title for Alex Ditchburn. Of the other contenders Ryan West passed 400 runs, Ian Whitehurst had a batting average of 330 and every other candidate on the shortlist for the award had a fantastic all round season with five of the shortlist also receiving a nomination for a national level award.
